All buses set off and heading for sunny Scotland, on route to Milne Land

Saturday 17th July 2004

This is it the night before the big day. All the personal gear is finally packed but doubt is still wondering is everything in, mini bus' and drivers are all fueled for the alpine style start to Glasgow at 4am!

Most of the participants are off out tonight with family and friends for their last tea in blighty.

Next report will be from the white dessert of Greenland........................

Thursday 15th July 2004

The last few have finally tried to pack, and found they still need the odd item.

The final plans with regards landing on Milne Land, is that after some juggling we have the services of a helicopter to take all our heavy gear up onto the glacier, where we had originally intended landing. So once we have been dropped off at the coast, we have a day and a half trek before we can set up base camp.

Final tests with our technology have proved to be successful. We have a number of solar panels, which we are using to charge up a 12v deep discharge battery. This in turn has a number of cigarette lighter sockets, into which we can plug all our electrical equipment. We have a laptop and sat phone, powered this way, which will be used to transmit report updates.

The laptop facility, will also be used to store all our digital photographs and GPS positional information. The photos will be used in our presentations when we return, and the GPS data can be used to update and correct the mapping data, that Dave has produced. CD writer facilites will be used to regularly backup our files and free up the hard disk.

At the farewell BBQ, held this evening, dispite the rain more than a hundred people turned out. Many a discussion was taking place about last minute packing tips etc. Alternative plans have been made with regards to our new landing site and we are hopeful that we don't have to carry all our gear too far.

The media is following our exploits, and photos and reports have appeared in local papers and the BBC have a web page under link, and a slot on the radio.

Tuesday 7th July 2004

Our Twin Otter pilot has been into Milne Land to assess our intended landing site. He has determined that because of excessive glacial melt, we will have to revert back to Plan A. We will now be dropped off near the coast to the east. An advanced helicopter drop off is now being planned for some of our supplies, which will be dropped part way up Korridoren.

This adjustment will mean that two days either end of our time on Milne Land will be occupied in transferring gear the 20km from and to the coast. However the good news is that we are now expecting very warm weather over Greenland throughout July and August. We will have to add in a few extra gallons of sunscreen. 600 hours of sunshine!!!!

Sunday 5th July 2004

A team of four people have been dropped off on Milne Land by helicopter. We hope to meet up with them at Constablepoint, when we fly out, to find out what they have done.
